Botlhale Boikanyo’s dream
In acknowledging the honour and momentous occasion, the 25-year-old said she had the opportunity to use her voice to introduce a giant in the world of football at one of South Africa’s biggest sporting events. She further reflected on her earlier opportunity to champion women’s voices in sport at the FIFA World Cup.
“Earlier this year, I travelled to the FIFA World Cup 2026 to champion the voices of women and girls in sport. To now find myself on a stage of this magnitude, using my own voice to contribute to a moment in our sporting history, feels incredibly full circle,” she wrote.
She is further reminded of how impactful having a voice can be and how far it can take a person.
“I am reminded that our voices can take us to places we never imagined, and that poetry belongs in every space where stories are being told and history being made.”
