Fikile Mbalula’s collapse at ConCourt leaves Mzansi sceptical: ‘He dodged the asylum question’

The Constitutional Court upheld the ANC’s appeal against the exclusion of 181 of its candidates from the local government elections, allowing the candidates to be included on the ballot for the 4 November municipal elections. Whilst addressing the press, the party’s Secretary-General, Fikile Mbalula, collapsed after an emotional delivery.

However, many South Africans who have seen the viral video of the collapse were unconvinced.

“I am not feeling well”

According to eNCA, ANC members celebrated the court’s verdict as Fikile broke down in tears, expressing relief at the court’s ruling.

In his emotional delivery, he thanked the ANC’s President Cyril Ramaphosa for his leadership.

When asked about the rumours circulating online about asylum seekers possibly being able to vote and the party allegedly mobilising asylum seekers, the Secretary-General, visibly unwell, slumped over.

“I am not feeling well,” he said shortly before falling into a chair.

People around the politician immediately went to his aid.

According to reports, ANC spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu attended to Fikile. The nature of the collapse is yet to be determined.

Social media users were sceptical about the timing of Fikile’s collapse, with many questioning why it would occur after being asked a question deemed impertinent by South Africans.

Some claimed he was trying to dodge the question.

Others are dismissing his collapse as an act altogether.
