The Proteas secured another ODI series win over Australia, beating the visitors by 32 runs in the second ODI at the DP World Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg yesterday afternoon, 27 September 2026.

The result gave the Proteas an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series, following their 67-run victory in the opening match in Durban.
Bavuma and Miller lead the way
South Africa Proteas were sent in to bat and posted an imposing 365/9 from their 50 overs, with captain Temba Bavuma and veteran batter David Miller producing centuries.
Bavuma scored 103, while Miller delivered a career-best 142 from 93 balls, including 12 fours and nine sixes. Their performances helped the Proteas recover after losing Aiden Markram on the first ball.
Miller’s century was particularly significant as he produced one of the standout ODI innings of his career on a memorable Pink Day at the Wanderers.
Australia fell 32 runs short
Australia made a strong start to their chase, with Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head both scoring 84.
However, the Proteas’ bowlers fought back during the middle and latter stages of the innings. Australia were eventually bowled out for 333 in 49.5 overs, falling 32 runs short of South Africa’s target.
South Africa’s bowlers were able to apply pressure at crucial moments, with the spinners playing an important role as Australia’s middle order struggled to maintain the required scoring rate.

Sixth consecutive ODI series win over Australia
The series victory extends South Africa’s impressive record against Australia in bilateral ODI cricket.
According to the ICC, this is the Proteas’ sixth consecutive ODI series win over Australia, continuing a run that stretches back to 2016/17.
The Proteas had already won the opening ODI in Durban by 67 runs, setting the tone for the series.

Although the series is decided, South Africa and Australia will meet again in the third and final ODI on Wednesday, 30 September 2026, at JB Marks Oval in Potchefstroom.
The three-match series is part of South Africa’s preparations for the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, which South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia will host.
For the Proteas, the 2-0 lead is another strong result against one of world cricket’s leading sides, with the team now having an opportunity to complete a series sweep in Potchefstroom.
