Mamelodi Sundowns claim vital 3 points against Marumo Gallants

Mamelodi Sundowns strengthened their position near the top of the Betway Premiership table after securing a convincing 2–0 victory over Marumo Gallants at Loftus Versfeld last night, 19 August 2026. The win gave the Brazilians all three points and moved them onto seven points from their opening league matches.

Mamelodi Sundowns bring their A-game

Sundowns made their intentions clear early in the match, breaking the deadlock in the 21st minute. Defender Malibongwe Khoza finished from a set-piece situation after Bathusi Aubaas helped create the opportunity, giving the hosts a 1–0 lead.

The Mamelodi team continued to control the contest and eventually doubled their advantage in the 67th minute.

Cassius Mailula, who has enjoyed an impressive return to the club, collected a clever pass from Brayan Léon before firing a left-footed effort into the top corner. It was Mailula’s third goal in four matches across all competitions.

The three points lifted Sundowns to third place with seven points, level with Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs, although goal difference separates the sides. The result follows Sundowns’ 3–2 victory over TS Galaxy and a 1–1 draw with Kaizer Chiefs in their previous league matches.

For the reigning African champions, the result represents another positive step in their early-season campaign. Sundowns will now look to maintain their momentum when they face AmaZulu at Loftus Versfeld on 26 August 2026.
