A local woman from Port Elizabeth (now Gqeberha) had had enough of the alleged corruption at the Department of Home Affairs, claiming that an official approached her to pay a R150 bribe for swift service.
After a clip of her exposing the allegations went viral, the woman took to social media to share her take on the situation.

How did Home Affairs allegedly bribe the woman?
The woman, Amanda Shaw, took to her Facebook account on 2 August 2026 to inform South Africans that she visited the Gqeberha-based branch to apply for passports for her children. Noting that she arrived in a BMW X4, she claimed it was at that time that a Home Affairs official presented the offer.
“‘My family member works inside,’ was said to me. I declined the offer,” wrote Amanda. “I watched closely as customers were helped who arrived after me. No way, Home Affairs. I will not pay you.”
She also claimed, “For R150 you can get your ID or passport, pick up your card in 10 minutes. Or in 20 minutes you can have your new ID card done and dusted.”

The video spread like wildfire on social media, with many South Africans giving Amanda her flowers for her bravery to address an issue that has plagued the country for decades.
“This is what we must do. Public officials think that they are doing us a favour,” said @BabablacksheepK.
An impressed @KhumisiNoma wrote, “You go, girl. We are tired.”
@Jake_Shaw2shared their opinion, “I admire her courage for speaking out against corruption. I just hope she has credible evidence to back up her allegations. However, standing on a chair to make her point came across as theatrical and uncivil, detracting from the seriousness of her message.”
