Bafana Bafana star Themba Zwane and Emmy-nominated actress Thuso Mbedu had South Africans thinking that they were dating after a viral video left many assuming the athlete was warmly embracing the Hollywood star.

Could Themba Zwane and Thuso Mbedu be dating?
On 30 June 2026, X user @khelinaMTN uploaded a clip of a woman running up to a man, captioning the post, “Thuso Mbedu and Themba Zwane.”

While the caption mentions their names, the video does not clearly show the faces of the two individuals. However, the green outfit worn by the mystery woman seemed to match that of Mbedu’s, who attended one of Bafana Bafana’s matches in Los Angeles.
An Instagram clip from SuperSport showed Mbedu rocking the national soccer team’s colours and wearing the exact same style (one arm out of her jacket’s sleeve) while speaking to sports presenter Julia Stuart.

South Africans engage in dating rumours
Local members of the online community gathered in the comment section, adding their two cents after watching the viral clip.
@Makhu_t asked, “Why is she running to the broer like that’s her mans or something?”
@khelinaMTN responded with the claim, “They used to date.”
“So cute,” remarked @Beedagal after watching the video.
In 2019, many believed Mbedu was in a romantic relationship with media personality DJ Sbu, a rumour she quickly dispelled. According to Briefly News, she was quoted as saying, “There are definitely more relevant people to start rumours about, I promise.”
Move! reported in 2019 that her manager, Vuyi Mpakanyiswa, also rubbished the claims, noting that Thuso had been in Los Angeles since January of that year and that the two went jet skiing on her last day in the area.
Neither Zwane nor Mbedu addressed the dating rumours at the time of publication.
