To show allegiance to Bafana Bafana, many South Africans humorously shared their plans to boycott Canadian-born rapper Drake before South Africa’s match against Canada at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The two countries will go head-to-head at the Los Angeles Stadium on 28 June 2026.

Bafana Bafana fans aim to boycott Drake

The team’s 1-0 victory over South Korea in Monterrey, Mexico, saw them qualify for the Round of 32 knockout stage. The match against Canada is crucial, as it determines whether South Africa’s 2026 FIFA World Cup journey ends or continues.

Following the victorious match, which took place on 25 June 2026 at 3am, X (formerly Twitter) user @Nkule__ headed to the popular social media platform and wrote, “No one should be listening to Drake until we beat Canada.”

The tweet prompted many Bafana Bafana fans to head to their keyboards with seriousness and humour.

South Africans choose their alternative artists

Several members of the online community flocked to the comment section with their thoughts. While some chose Zola, TKZee, and Focalistic as their artists of choice, others joked about seeing the Hotline Bling hitmaker as a sworn enemy.

@Nkule__ also told folks, “Do it for the country. It’s only until Sunday.”

@cnehshuga jokingly added, “If we win against Canada, Drake should come perform pro bono.”

Referring to the ‘Drake Curse,’ @Yolophonik wrote to social media users, “If Drake bets on Canada, then we’re sorted.”

@JoeyDrumzSA listed other Canadian artists, writing, “Not Drake, not The Weeknd, not Justin Bieber, not PartyNextDoor, not Daniel Caesar, not Nelly Furtado, not Celine Dion, not Bryan Adams, not Avril Lavigne, or Carly Rae Jepsen. No maple syrup on your waffles this week either.”
