Winter wellness boost: Why vitamin C hydration matters

Winter often brings colder air, lower humidity, and a higher chance of dehydration—even if you don’t feel as thirsty as you do in summer. At the same time, it’s the season when colds, flu, and fatigue tend to spike.

One simple addition to your daily hydration routine that may help support your well-being is vitamin C.

Supports immune function

Vitamin C plays a well-known role in immune health. While it doesn’t ‘prevent’ colds outright, it supports several immune system functions, including the activity of white blood cells.

During winter, when respiratory infections like the common cold are more common, maintaining adequate vitamin C intake may help your body respond more efficiently to everyday immune challenges.

Helps reduce winter dehydration

Cold weather can suppress thirst signals, meaning you unknowingly drink less water in winter. Adding vitamin C—often through infused water or supplements dissolved in liquids—can encourage more consistent fluid intake.

Supports skin health in dry weather

Cold air outside and heated air indoors can strip moisture from the skin, leading to dryness, flaking, or irritation.

Vitamin C contributes to collagen production, which helps maintain:

  • Skin elasticity
  • Skin repair
  • Overall skin barrier strength

When paired with adequate hydration, it may help your skin stay more resilient during harsh winter conditions.

May improve energy and reduce fatigue

Winter fatigue is common, partly due to reduced sunlight exposure and changes in routine. Vitamin C is involved in energy metabolism and helps the body absorb iron from plant-based foods.

When combined with good hydration, it may help reduce feelings of sluggishness and support more stable daily energy levels.
