A heated social media exchange between the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) member of parliament Sixolise Gcilishe and podcaster Lebo Keswa has reportedly led to a lawsuit.

According to Briefly News, Sixolise is suing Lebo for defamation of character. Through her attorneys, Sixolise stated that she has no knowledge of the passing of Pearl Shongwe, saying Lebo should apologise to her family.

“We hereby place on record that our client does not know about the false, malicious and defamatory allegations contained in your X posts and denies the same. If you possess any knowledge regarding what “happened” to Ms Shongwe regarding her passing, it would be wise for you to approach law enforcement to disclose the same. It is also concerning that you possess knowledge regarding what “happened” to Ms Shongwe, however, you choose to conceal the same,” they penned.

The online clash, which quickly went viral, saw both parties trading sharp and personal remarks in a series of posts that drew widespread reaction from users across South Africa. As the argument intensified, it began to pull in other public figures, further amplifying the visibility of the dispute.

Reports indicate that Lebo later shared videos and what she described as “receipts” in an effort to support her claims, adding another layer to the already volatile situation. The move fuelled further debate online, with social media users divided over the credibility of the information and the conduct of those involved.
