The Polo Vivo recall issued on 5 March 2026 affects 25 729 vehicles sold nationally between February 2025 and February 2026 and owners should check whether their car is included immediately, reports Cape {town} Etc.

Product Safety Recall: Own a VW Polo Vivo bought between Feb 2025 – Feb 2026?

The National Consumer Commission (NCC) says Volkswagen Group Africa told regulators that a rivet on the handbrake lever may fall outside specification.

If the rivet height is incorrect, the handbrake might not engage properly or could disengage unexpectedly, creating a safety risk when a vehicle is parked on an incline.

The NCC is monitoring the recall and advises owners to visit any authorised dealership for a free inspection and repair.

Precautionary steps recommended until inspection include selecting first gear for manual cars or ‘P’ for automatics and avoiding parking on slopes.

“Given the high potential risks of the defect, owners of affected vehicles are urged to immediately get their vehicles to any authorised VW dealership for inspection. Any inspection and associated repairs will be done at no cost to the vehicle owners,” said Hardin Ratshisusu.

Independent reporting confirms the scope of the recall and the safety advice for owners.

If you drive a Polo Vivo bought between February 2025 and February 2026, contact your nearest authorised dealer or the NCC for the fastest route to a free inspection.
