Lunga Mofokeng returns to screens as the mysterious Mr Q on ‘Skeem Saam’

by Zaghrah Anthony

A new face in Turf

Mzansi viewers are in for a treat as actor Lunga Mofokeng steps back into daily drama screens, this time joining Skeem Saam on SABC 1. Known for his breakout role as Andile Dikana on The River, Mofokeng brings both charm and intrigue to his new character, Qhomane, or Mr Q, a teacher whose arrival at Turf High promises to shake up familiar dynamics.

Mr Q is the kind of character who immediately catches attention — young, confident, articulate, and effortlessly magnetic. On paper, he seems to be the perfect addition to the school staff, but anyone familiar with Turf knows that nothing is ever as simple as it seems.

Confidence with a twist

“Qhomane is a fascinating character to step into. On the surface, he’s confident and composed, but there’s a lot happening beneath that,” Mofokeng explained. “I’ve enjoyed exploring those layers and bringing someone like Mr Q into the world of Turf.”

From his first day, Mr Q carries a quiet authority that sets him apart. His presence alone begins to ripple through the school, subtly influencing students, teachers, and even the wider community. Questions naturally arise: Who is he really? What does he want, and what might his presence mean for Turf High’s carefully balanced ecosystem?

Shaking up Turf’s dynamics

While the school continues its day-to-day drama, Mr Q’s arrival brings nuanced shifts. Relationships are tested, alliances reconsidered, and the community’s curiosity is piqued. For longtime Skeem Saam fans, the character promises both excitement and suspense — someone who’s not just there to teach, but to stir conversation and provoke reflection.

Mofokeng’s transition from his acclaimed The River role to Skeem Saam is already drawing social media buzz, with fans eager to see how he will navigate the world of Turf High. Many have expressed excitement on X, noting that his ability to portray depth and complexity could bring fresh energy to the show.

When and where to watch

Lunga Mofokeng makes his first appearance as Qhomane on Monday, February 9, at 19:30 on SABC 1. Fans of Mzansi telenovelas and educational drama won’t want to miss how Turf High adjusts to its newest and most enigmatic teacher.

As Mr Q steps into the Turf universe, one thing is certain: nothing will stay the same for long, and every glance, word, and decision could hint at secrets yet to be revealed.
