Johannesburg to Honour DJ Warras with Memorial Service Amid Ongoing Investigation

by Zaghrah Anthony

Johannesburg Mourns DJ Warras

The South African entertainment community is preparing to say goodbye to DJ Warras, the beloved radio personality and television host whose life was tragically cut short outside the Carlton Centre in Johannesburg on Tuesday, December 16.

Friends, family, and colleagues will gather for his memorial service at The Galleria in Sandton at 11:00, honoring the 40-year-old’s contributions to the local music and media scene, as well as his vibrant personality that touched so many lives.

City Leadership Offers Condolences

The loss has resonated beyond the entertainment industry. Johannesburg Executive Mayor Councillor Dada Morero visited the Stock family at their home to offer condolences, comfort, and support to Warrick’s mother, children, and extended family.

“The City stands with them, holding their pain in our hearts. The City of Johannesburg mourns the tragic loss of a young life and extends its deepest sympathies to all those affected by this painful passing,” Morero said.

The Mayor highlighted Warrick’s kindness, talent, and unwavering spirit, emphasizing how deeply his passing has impacted not just family and friends, but all who knew him through his work and community involvement.

Investigation Continues

Despite social media speculation, Gauteng police have clarified that no suspects have been arrested or taken in for questioning regarding the murder.

“There is no suspect taken for questioning or arrested. Investigation is continuing,” said Captain Tintswalo Sibeko, speaking to IOL News.

Authorities urge the public to allow law enforcement to carry out the investigation without interference and to avoid spreading unverified claims online.

A Community in Shock

DJ Warras, known offstage as Warrick Stock, was more than just a media personality. He was a property activist and a voice in Johannesburg’s vibrant cultural scene, championing local talent and engaging with his community through his radio and television work.

Social media reactions have been a mix of grief, tributes, and calls for justice:

  • “Shady Lurker, you left too soon. Rest in peace,” wrote one fan.

  • “Johannesburg has lost one of its brightest spirits. Thinking of the family today,” said another.

Fans and colleagues are expected to gather in large numbers at the memorial service, reflecting both the personal impact Warrick had on people’s lives and the broader cultural footprint he leaves behind.

While the investigation continues and authorities work to uncover those responsible, the memorial service represents a moment for the community to come together to grieve, to celebrate Warrick’s life, and to remind the city of the joy and energy he brought to South Africa’s entertainment landscape.

As Johannesburg prepares to pay its respects, DJ Warras’ legacy as a dedicated entertainer and community advocate is expected to resonate long after the memorial concludes.
