The BET Africa telenovela, Black Gold, will air double episodes to ensure that fans do not miss out on the outstanding episodes, before the channel shuts down on January 1, 2026.

Produced by Black Brain, Black Gold premiered in August, keeping viewers entertained with its riveting storyline. This telenovela boasts a star-studded cast that includes Dawn Thandeka King, Sello Maake kaNcube, Ernest Ndlovu, Siphesihle Vazi, Zamani Mbatha, Nomalanga Shozi, and Tina Jaxa, among others.

Set in the heart of KwaZulu-Natal, Black Gold follows the story of Amandla Zungu (played by Nomalanga Shozi), a principled and passionate daughter of the soil, whose life is shattered when her beloved father is murdered, and she is falsely accused of the crime by her stepmother. The story follows her journey to reclaim her power, legacy and land.

City Press reported that filming for Black Gold recently wrapped up, and the accelerated double-episode schedule is designed to make sure every story beat is shown before BET Africa shuts down.

MultiChoice confirmed that BET Africa, along with MTV Base, will be discontinued on DSTV from January 1 in a statement.

“MultiChoice can confirm that BET Africa and MTV Base will be discontinued on the DStv and GOtv platforms from 1 January 2026 at 9:00 CAT, following updates from our channel partner, Paramount.

“Our customers can continue to enjoy other international channels from Paramount, including Nickelodeon, NickToons, Nick Jr, Comedy Central, and MTV. We thank Paramount for their continued partnership and look forward to working with them on the remaining channel offerings,” MultiChoice said.
