WATCH | Cat Matlala hits back: ‘I know nothing about Tembisa tender’

by Staff Bona

Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, currently in prison on an attempted murder case and testifying before Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee, has denied having any relationship with businessman Katiso “KT” Molefe or involvement in the Tembisa Hospital tender scandal.

Advocate Norman Arendse, leading the evidence, questioned Vusimuzi about whether he ever formed a personal relationship with Katiso.

Vusimuzi said he had not.

Norman then asked if Vusimuzi had ever provided Katiso with VIP protection, to which he again responded no.

Norman went on to reference a news report stating: “It was reported in News24, you would be aware of this article that you had secured some premises in January 2024,  premises with the hospital which houses the South African Police Services College?”

Vusimuzi confirmed this.

Arendse put it to him that the article alleged he leased the premises because he anticipated winning the widely discussed tender.

Vusimuzi denied this, saying: Vusimuzi: “That hospital, I have been trying to secure the lease for the past three years, so when they say I knew about the tender, for me, when they say I knew about the tender does not add up.”

He testified that although his companies received requests for quotations from the health department, he had never been contacted by law enforcement regarding the Tembisa Hospital investigation.

However, he acknowledged that agencies like the police or the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption may be probing the matter.

The Special Investigating Unit previously linked three companies that received R13.5 million in contracts at Tembisa Hospital to Vusimuzi, as part of a broader network of alleged corruption, fraud, and maladministration.
