Sexpo Reinvents Itself as Love Expo, Same Naughty Fun, New Inclusive Vibe

by Zaghrah Anthony

From Sexpo to Love Expo: South Africa’s Naughty Tradition Gets a Fresh Twist

South Africa’s long-running adult lifestyle exhibition is turning over a new leaf—or perhaps just a new name. After nearly two decades as Sexpo, the provocative event is now officially the Love Expo, signalling a fresh approach while promising to retain the bold, cheeky fun that has made it a staple of South African nightlife.

Organisers say the rebrand is about more than a name change. It’s a statement: a move toward inclusivity, freedom, and connection, giving attendees a space to explore love, intimacy, and personal expression without fear of judgment.

“After years of censorship—from banned ads to social media restrictions—it became clear the name itself was holding us back,” says spokesperson Sarah Dean. “We weren’t being silenced because of what we did, but because of what people thought we did.”

Love Over Labels

Dean emphasises that the change is about broadening the conversation. “Love is bigger and more inclusive than sex alone. It connects every one of us,” she says. “The Love Expo captures the vibrant energy, cheeky fun, and unforgettable entertainment that made Sexpo iconic—but through a lens everyone can relate to.”

Despite the softer branding, Dean assures that the “naughty” side isn’t going anywhere. The festival still promises the same bold performances, interactive experiences, and open-minded celebration that long-time fans have come to expect.

A Growing Audience

Since its debut in 2007, the expo has welcomed more than half a million visitors. Over the years, it has adapted to reflect changing attitudes around sexuality, relationships, and identity. The new name is intended to better capture the event’s mission: authenticity, empowerment, and removing unnecessary societal boundaries.

This year, the Love Expo aims to further expand its offerings with a focus on body positivity, LGBTQ+ pride, and consent education, alongside playful entertainment.

“Visitors can expect spaces that celebrate every form of love and identity,” Dean explains. “We’ve curated experiences to make people feel safe, inspired, and empowered.”

What to Expect at Love Expo 2025

From Friday, 28 to Sunday, 30 November 2025, at the SunBet Arena, Times Square, Menlyn Maine, Pretoria, attendees will enjoy a three-day celebration of adult fun, art, and exploration. Tickets start at R250, and the event is strictly 18+.

Highlights include:

  • Sexy Shopping: Explore thousands of products designed to delight, inspire, and excite.

  • Sizzling Stage Shows: Pole artistry, aerial acrobatics, and high-energy performances that dazzle the senses.

  • Fantasy Lounges: Immerse yourself in themed worlds that cater to curiosity, playfulness, and imagination.

  • Theatre of Erotica & Workshops: Learn from experts about intimacy, confidence, and connection.

  • Vegas Strip Games: Play flirty, fun versions of poker and roulette in a playful, adult-only casino.

  • Sexy Snaps & Boudoir Glam: Capture your bold side at 360° photo booths and professional boudoir shoots.

  • So You Think You Can Strip: Show off your confidence, creativity, and skills on the main stage—prizes included.

  • Body Art: Watch artists transform skin into glittering, wearable art.

  • Aphrodisiac Deli: Indulge in decadent chocolates, exotic snacks, and handcrafted elixirs.

A Bold Step in a Changing Society

Despite a more accepting public, organisers acknowledge there is still resistance. Past billboards have been vandalised, and some traditional media remain hesitant. Yet thousands continue to attend each year, embracing self-expression without apology.

“The Love Expo isn’t about pushing boundaries—it’s about removing unnecessary ones,” Dean says. “It’s a space where adults can celebrate love, identity, and curiosity with confidence.”

For South Africans looking to explore, play, and connect in a welcoming, adult-only environment, the Love Expo 2025 promises all the cheeky excitement of its predecessor, with a fresh, inclusive spin.
