DJ Chymamusique launches BackABuddy for medical expenses

by Zintle Mdaka

South African DJ and music producer Collen Ntala Mmotla, popularly known as DJ Chymamusique, has launched a BackABuddy campaign to assist with his medical expenses.

This comes after he survived a fatal car accident that claimed four lives, including his friend and fellow musician, DJ Poizen, near Polokwane on August 30. Recently, he had to return to hospital on 27 October, due to internal bleeding and a seizure. He underwent multiple surgeries including an emergency craniotomy surgery, where a portion of the skull was temporarily removed to access the brain. This is often performed to treat conditions such as brain injuries, blood clots or tumours.

The Don’t Wait Till I’m Gone: Musique Chant hitmaker recently took to his X (formerly Twitter) page to share that he has set up a donations campaign.

“By popular demand I was asked to open this BackABuddy campaign to reduce a bit of load when it comes to medical bills , do it voluntarily,” he penned. He also urged his supporters to not give what they need.

At the time of the accident, the Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety spokesperson Tidimalo Chuene said two sedans collided head-on before catching fire. Tidimalo also shared that four of the deceased were burnt beyond recognition. The accident took place on the N1 near Ysterberg Mountain, outside Polokwane.
