South African actor Ontshiametse Molekoa has announced that he will be taking a break from acting to focus on his recovery.
This is after a freak accident left him with burns on his face, following a cooking incident at home. Ontshiametse took to his Instagram page to share pictures of his injuries, revealing visible burns on his face, which appear on his upper lip, cheeks, nose, and hand in a series of close-up images.
The actor is best known for playing Pharaoh in the award-winning 1Magic telenovela The River and on BET’s Isono. Writing about his ordeal, he said he is filled with regret and sadness.
“I’ve been through a traumatic experience that has left me scarred, both physically and emotionally. The accident with hot cooking oil has left my face burned, and I’m struggling to come to terms with the impact it will have on my career.
“As an actor, my face is my livelihood, my tool, my everything. The thought of not being able to pursue my passion, to bring characters to life, to entertain and inspire you all, is almost too much to bear. I’m heartbroken, and I don’t know what the future holds,” he penned.
Ontshiametse shared his gratitude to those who have supported him in this challenging time.
“But amidst the darkness, I’m grateful for the outpouring of love, support, and well-wishes from all of you. Your messages, calls, and prayers have lifted my spirits and given me strength during this difficult time. I want to thank each and every one of you from the bottom of my heart. I’m happy to report that my recovery is progressing well, thanks to the incredible medical team caring for me. I’m taking it one day at a time, focusing on healing and rebuilding. I have faith that everything happens for a reason, and I’m trusting that this too shall pass,” said Ontshiametse.
“I’ll be taking some time off to focus on my recovery and regroup. I don’t know when I’ll be back in action, but I promise to keep you all updated on my journey. Thank you for standing by me, for loving me, and for being my rock. I love you all, and I appreciate your unwavering support,” he added.
