You can make do without buying a single thing to create your own scarecrow. This mini DIY scarecrow project can be a fun and functional activity for you and your family. Steps to DIY your own scarecrow
Before you begin, take a look at the materials you have available and plan your scarecrow design accordingly. Search through old clothes and any other items that will help you create the scarecrow. Once you have gathered everything, assemble all the materials, tools, and fasteners you will need.
Step 1:
Make the frame that will be the base for the scarecrow body. You’ll need sturdy pieces of wood for the body, such as old broom handles. You can either nail or tie them together to form a cross. Do this so the lower part of the upright is longest, as part of this will be in the ground.
Step 2:
Now it’s time to create the head. Any old cotton shopping bags or even a sack are good for this stage. Stuff the sack with loose material such as straw, dried leaves, or old clothes cut into many pieces. Avoid using paper as it will become sodden with rain. Tie or sew up the sack almost completely, leaving enough of a gap to slide it onto the body frame.
Step 3:
Create the features from the eyes, nose, and mouth by either embroidering or sewing on buttons of varying sizes. Use an old pair of trousers to make the lower half of the body. Secure these onto the frame. Make the top half of the body by putting a jacket or shirt on the frame. Knit it up at the sleeves, then stuff with more filling material. Put the head on; adding a hat will make for a great finishing touch.
Step 4:
Your scarecrow is ready to stand in its place. Make a deep, narrow hole for the frame to stay on the ground for support.
