Black Coffee buys Clifton ‘Pentagon’ home for R157m

by Staff Bona

Grammy-winning DJ Black Coffee has bought one of Clifton’s most talked-about houses, paying about R157 million for the five-level villa known as The Pentagon.

According to News24, the purchase makes the home one of the priciest residential sales recorded in South Africa this year.

Designed by Stefan Antoni, the residence crowns the Atlantic Seaboard with panoramic views of the ocean and the Twelve Apostles. The property spans multiple floors and includes:

  • five en-suite bedrooms
  • an elevator
  • a cinema
  • a private gym
  • staff quarters
  • covered parking for several vehicles

A rim-flow infinity pool sits on the terrace, opening on to the sea view. Estate listings and coverage describe lavish, light-filled interiors and a double-volume entertainment area that flows on to the terrace.

Lance Cohen of Lance Real Estate described the sale as a landmark transaction and noted the sale followed a process with more than one interested buyer.

Public records show a company called Little Ark Holdings registered the title with Black Coffee listed as director.

The purchase comes in the wake of the finalisation of his divorce last week, prompting local discussion about whether the new property will serve as a private retreat or a fresh start (2oceansvibe).

For neighbours and fans, the purchase adds a new chapter to the city’s high-end property story and places one of South Africa’s most visible artists on the Atlantic Seaboard.
