South African rugby has once again proven itself to be a big-time player on the global stage.
After winning back-to-back Rugby World Cup trophies at the sport’s biggest tournament, their renowned documentary Chasing the Sun 2 was recently nominated for an Emmy Award.
Chasing the Sun 2 tells the tale of the highs and lows that Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus experienced in their journey to winning the 2023 Rugby World Cup, which was held in France. The documentary also features interviews with players, supporting staff, as well as behind-the-scenes footage in the locker room, training sessions, and match day antics, while placing a special profile on players’ backgrounds and upbringing.
The documentary was produced by T+W, who were previously nominated for an Emmy Award for producing Two Sides – a sports documentary which captured the British and Irish Lions tour to South Africa in the heart of the pandemic in 2021.
Furthermore, the SuperSport original is one of four MultiChoice productions that have been nominated to receive an award.
Other categories include Best Performing Actress: Charlette Hope (Catch Me a Killer), Documentary: School Ties, and Drama series: Koek.
In a conversation with news publication Citizen News, Director of Content: General Entertainment at MultiChoice, Nomsa Philiso, praised content teams for their creativity and storytelling.
“We are proud of our content teams and producing partners, whose creativity and commitment have earned MultiChoice a record four International Emmy nominations,” Nomsa said.
“These nominations mark a significant milestone for our industry, showing that local stories are being recognised on a global stage.”

The winner will be announced at the 53rd International Emmy Awards on 24 November in New York.
