Cape Town is gearing up for a major celebration as the ICC World Test Champion Proteas bring their Mace Tour to the Mother City.

The victory parade, led by captain Temba Bavuma and his squad, will take place on Friday, 26 September, giving fans a chance to line the streets and salute South Africa’s cricket heroes.

In an announcement shared by the City of Cape Town, officials confirmed that the celebrations will kick off at the historic Grand Parade before the team bus makes its way through the central business district. The event comes after a remarkable season for the Proteas, marked by series wins against both Australia and England and capped with South Africa’s first ICC trophy in over two decades.

Cricket South Africa is partnering with the City to ensure the parade is accessible for residents and visitors. Entertainment at the Grand Parade will start from 11am, with a fan meet-and-greet session planned before the players board the open bus.

The bus is scheduled to depart at 1pm, following a route through Darling Street, Adderley Street, Wale Street, Long Street, Buitensingel, Loop Street, Strand Street, and back along Adderley Street past Cape Town Station.

Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith, has called on Capetonians to turn out in force.

“The Proteas have had an amazing year that has brought so much pride to the nation. This is an opportunity for us to celebrate their success, especially the ICC World Test Champions victory, South Africa’s first ICC title in over 20 years,” he noted.

He added that businesses in the CBD are encouraged to allow staff to step outside so the streets can be filled with supporters.

Authorities have advised residents and motorists to expect rolling road closures between 11am and 4pm in the CBD. Traffic officials will manage diversions to accommodate the parade route.

The City emphasised that the event is not just a sporting milestone but also a chance for Capetonians to unite in national pride.
