The Reeva Steenkamp Foundation has provided an update on the current progress of June Steenkamp.
Earlier this month, it was revealed that the mourning mother and widow suffered an unexpected stroke, which has left her hospitalised and in need of medical assistance to cover rehabilitation costs.
The foundation, under the management of her close friend and lawyer Tania Koen, later appealed to the public to assist her by offering financial assistance to cover medical costs while promising to use leftover funds to assist the foundation with fighting Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
In a recent statement shared on social media, the foundation provided a new update on her progress.
“It is with great relief and gratitude that we inform you that June has been transferred to a rehabilitation centre. We are elated to report that June is doing very well physically, in all respects.”
“June still doesn’t know her name and requires substantial speech therapy, but we celebrate that June is able to say a few words. Your prayers and thoughts are appreciated,” the statement concluded.
Her recent health setback came just two years after the death of her husband Barry, who sadly passed away on the 14th September 2023, reportedly from a broken heart.
In another post, the foundation shared a video in memory of him.
“Barry… it’s been two years since you joined Reeva. You are missed. Your gentle, kind heart, your empathy towards others… a legacy to be proud of,” they wrote.
