Langa Mavuso Transforms Heartbreak into Music with ‘Therapy (The Other Side)’

by Zaghrah Anthony

For Langa Mavuso, the past few years have been a turbulent mix of fear, grief, and resilience. From a harrowing hijacking incident involving his mother to the heartbreaking loss of his partner of seven years, celebrity chef Lentswe Bhengu-Mafoko, life has tested him in unimaginable ways.

Yet, the award-winning singer-songwriter has found a way to transform his personal hardships into art, announcing his highly anticipated sophomore album, ‘Therapy (The Other Side)’, dropping on October 3, 2025.

A Life Marked by Trials

In April last year, Langa took to social media in a desperate plea to find his mother, who had been hijacked in Johannesburg. After nine agonizing hours, she was safely located in Naturena. Sharing his relief on X, he wrote:

“Thank you, Lord. We’ve just found her in Naturena with no help of @Tracker_SA after a sleepless night. Thank you for your prayers, raising awareness, assistance and calls. Grateful.”

Not long after, he faced another blow—the untimely passing of Lentswe Bhengu-Mafoko. Their seven-year partnership had been a source of love and inspiration, making the loss all the more profound.

Music as a Mirror and Medicine

Rather than letting tragedy define him, Langa channels his experiences into his music. He describes ‘Therapy (The Other Side)’ as more than an album—it’s a deeply personal journey, a series of “letters” to himself and the versions of who he has been.

“This album is my form of therapy, a space where I sat with every version of myself. The lost boy, the seeker, the healer, the believer. I wrote to them. I sang to them. I forgave them,” he shared.

The project delves into heavy yet honest themes: loss—of love, identity, and direction; exploration—of self and the unknown; healing—both gentle and painful; and seeking—a spiritual journey toward God, faith, and stillness.

Connecting With a Generation

Langa hopes his music resonates beyond his personal story.

“I am ushering in a fresh, youthful era, one where I am not only seen as a musician but as a mirror to my generation’s emotions, fears and hopes.”

He plans to expand the experience of the album through live performances, social media engagement, fashion, and collaborations, creating a fully immersive connection with fans.

With ‘Therapy (The Other Side)’, Langa Mavuso invites listeners to witness a man confronting his deepest vulnerabilities, finding strength in storytelling, and turning pain into power. Fans are eagerly anticipating what promises to be a raw, soulful, and transformative musical journey.

“I can’t wait to share this next chapter with you,” he concludes, setting the stage for a reflective and cathartic release that will leave a mark on South African music and its audience.
