Reason behind DJ Vumar’s Gagasi exit revealed

It seems like there is more to why radio broadcaster Vuma Buthelezi, better known as DJ Vumar, left Gagasi FM.

DJ Vumar left the station sometime in September, citing that he needed to take a break from radio. However, insiders share different reasons for his exit. Vumar was with the station for 10 years, and they believe that he might have left the station because he felt overlooked.

A source at the station revealed to TshisaLIVE that Vumar had grown increasingly frustrated after more than a decade at Gagasi FM, feeling sidelined during programming changes.

“He has never hosted a prime-time show like breakfast or drive. When there’s a reshuffle, he ends up with weekend slots and often has to settle as a scheduled presenter,” said the source.

Another insider hinted to the publication that the DJ may be in talks with Vuma FM, suggesting his current style and brand may resonate more with their listenership.

“The guy might be in talks with Vuma FM and his personality can relate better with their audience. That environment could bring back his glory days,” the source said.

Gagasi FM spokesperson Khulekani Shandu debunked the rumours.

“When Vumar moved from being a DJ to being a pastor, the station supported him fully. He was given shows aligned to his spiritual calling. Even this season, he was given an additional weekend show, showing how much we believed in his versatility. It’s not true that he was overlooked for prime-time, he was scheduled to be on-air six times a week,” said Khulekani.

Responding to the alleged truth about his departure, Vumar said: “The guidance, opportunities and mentorship were the best training any broadcaster could receive. I attribute my capability to host any radio slot to the mentorship and opportunities the station afforded me. Gagasi FM allowed me to be what and who I wanted to be. I appreciate that I discovered so much about my career, life and destiny,” he said.
