SARS seizes assets at Royal AM as MaMkhize’s tax woes deepen

by Staff Bona

Businesswoman Shauwn “MaMkhize” Mkhize is facing escalating legal and financial pressure from the South African Revenue Service (SARS), which this week carried out operations to seize movable assets from her properties and Royal AM FC’s training facility.

According to IOL, SARS officials, accompanied by police, conducted operations at several of Shauwn’s properties, including her house in Sandton (Johannesburg), her sister Nozipho Ngubo’s home in Nkanyezini near Pietermaritzburg, and her football club’s training facility (“Royal Ranch”) along the R56 between Pietermaritzburg and Maqongqo.

As reported by Briefly News, about ten trucks were deployed to the Royal Ranch, where dormitories used by Royal AM’s women’s side were emptied of beds and other essentials while players continued with training sessions nearby.

Some athletes expressed unease about the lack of communication from management and uncertainty about the club’s financial stability.

As stated by SARS spokesperson Siphithi Sibeko, speaking to IOL, the operation should not be described as a raid but rather a court-sanctioned process.

“This is not a raid, it is an enforcement action carried out under a Durban High Court order dated 21 November 2024.

“We are acting strictly within our legal mandate,” Siphithi said.

He added that SARS would not disclose the full details of the order or the complete list of individuals and assets involved.

This latest move follows earlier enforcement steps.

According to News24, SARS had previously obtained preservation orders against vehicles and assets tied to Shauwn and the Shandi Trust, while also summoning close associates in an attempt to trace tax liabilities.
