Mkhuseli Magudumana Speaks Out, ‘I Don’t Know Her’ Amid Nandipha-Thabo Bester Allegations

The moment the husband breaks his silence

After months of swirling allegations, Mkhuseli Magudumana, husband of celebrity doctor Nandipha Magudumana, has finally responded to claims of an affair between his wife and convicted criminal Thabo Bester. In the Netflix docuseries Beauty and the Bester, released recently, Mkhuseli says the person presented in the controversy is unrecognisable to him. He insists this is not the Nandipha he married.

A marriage, children, and growing distance

Mkhuseli and Nandipha married in 2013 and share two children. According to statements made in the documentary, the last time the children saw their mother was in 2023, when she dropped them off at school—but she did not pick them up. The family is legally married but separated.

The claim of a “customary husband” and alleged affair

Nandipha reportedly called Thabo Bester her “customary husband” in legal papers, claiming a relationship during his imprisonment. She also says she first met him back in 2006 while at university. These assertions feature in the documentary and raise questions about overlapping relationships.

The scale of the legal case

Both Nandipha Magudumana and Thabo Bester face serious charges. They are accused of orchestrating his prison escape in 2022, defrauding the public, and violating multiple bodies. Their trial is scheduled for 10 November 2025 at the Bloemfontein High Court.

What Mkhuseli says now

When asked how he felt about all these allegations, Mkhuseli said, “I don’t know this Nandipha. This is not the one I married, not the mother of my children as I knew her.” He also said he wants the law to “take its course” and hopes that eventually his children can hear directly from their mother who she is now and what questions she has to answer.

Public reaction and what this means for the family

The docuseries has stirred debate online. Some sympathise with Mkhuseli’s sense of betrayal; others argue the situation highlights issues of truth, loyalty, and public image. In South Africa, where family reputation and customary vs legal relationships often overlap, this narrative has struck a chord.
