With summer season approaching, the last thing you need is a sickness that will keep you from enjoying the hot days in the beach.
One of those sicknesses are kidney stones, they are not too common but they are starting to be popular as many people are starting to open up about their battle with them. The Real Housewives of Durban (RHOD) star, Jojo Robinson recently shared her ordeal with the kidney stones.
The kidney stones are small, hard mineral deposits that form inside the kidneys when there is an imbalance of water, salts, and other substances in the urine.
According to Mayo Clinic, kidney stones have various causes. These include diet, extra body weight, some health conditions, and some supplements and medicines. Kidney stones can affect any of the organs that make urine or remove it from the body — from the kidneys to the bladder. Often, stones form when the urine has less water in it. This lets minerals form crystals and stick together.
The clinic added that, passing kidney stones can be quite painful. But prompt treatment usually helps prevent any lasting damage. Sometimes, the only treatment needed to pass a kidney stone is taking pain medicine and drinking lots of water. Other times, surgery or other treatments may be needed. It depends on size, location and the type of stone you have.
According to Cleveland Clinic, these are the symptoms of kidney stones.
The most common symptom of kidney stones is pain in your lower back, belly or side. It might feel like it extends from your groin to your side. It can be a dull pain or sharp and severe. It’s sometimes called colicky pain because it can get worse in waves.
Other kidney stone symptoms include:
- Nausea and vomiting.
- Bloody pee.
- Pain when you pee.
- Inability to pee.
- Feeling the urge to pee a lot.
- Fever or chills.
- Cloudy or foul-smelling pee.
