Controversial businessman Cat Matlala and his wife Tsakani have drawn some attention. The couple’s recent court appearances bare an uncanny similarity to the story of infamous couple Nandipha Magudumana and Thabo Bestser.

Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala has quickly become a household name in South Africa, however, not for any positive reasons, but rather for facing accusations of committing some heinous crimes. In May, the prominent businessman was arrested and charged with attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, as well as money laundering. These charges were in connection to a botched drive-by shooting targeting his ex-girlfriend  Tebogo Thobejane.

Approximately two months after his arrest, a different SAPS ballistic report unveiled that the gun used during Tebogo’s attempted murder, was the same gun used in the infamous murder of Oupa Sefoka, who was popularly known as DJ Sumbody. This took matters from bad to worse for the businessman, as he was now linked to two high-profile criminal cases.

Shortly after his arrest, Cat’s wife, Tsakani was added to the charge sheet, and was arrested shortly after. Due to her poor health and role as mother, she was granted bail of R20 000 on the condition that she surrenders her passport and remains in Gauteng.

As the case has been centralised, the couple has had a few court appearances which have captured the public’s attention for various reasons. Their non-chalant attitude, and small displays of affection seem to remind some of another notorious couple; Nandipha Magudumana and Thabo Bester. Similarly to them, they embraced the ‘Bonnie & Clyde’ role until things started to take a different route, when the cracks started to reveal that there was trouble in paradise.

The public could not help but notice a drastic change in Nandipha’s appearance, causing speculation regarding her physical and emotional health, as well as the status of her relationship with Thabo Bester.

Upon having a look at Cat and Tsakani interact with each other during their court appearances, some have made comparisons between the two couples, and have predicted Cat and Tsakani to follow a similar path to that of Nandipha and Thabo.
