Working from home has its perks, but let’s be honest – staring at the same desk all day can feel a little…uninspiring.
That’s where a touch of greenery comes in. A well-chosen plant not only makes your workspace look more inviting, but can also lift your mood, freshen the air, and help you feel more energised (especially on those long, coffee-fuelled afternoons).
Here are some of my favourite home-office plants – all beautiful, low-maintenance, and guaranteed to make your desk a happier place to be:
Moth Orchid (Phalaenopsis)
If your office style leans toward sleek and polished, a moth orchid is the perfect match. Its blooms bring a burst of colour and elegance, and with the right care, they can flower for up to three months. Give them bright, indirect light, water once a week in summer (every two weeks in winter), and enjoy their surprisingly resilient nature.
Mother-in-law’s Tongue (Sansevieria)
A plant that’s as tough as it looks, the mother-in-law’s tongue is perfect for those who forget to water. Its architectural leaves suit a modern, minimal space, and it thrives with occasional watering and bright light. Just let the soil dry out completely before the next watering.

Peace Lily (Spathiphyllum)
Peace lilies have a graceful presence that instantly softens a space. They prefer a cooler spot with gentle light and love humidity — placing them on a pebble tray with a little water underneath will keep them happy. In return, they’ll reward you with glossy leaves and elegant white blooms.
Hen and Chickens (Chlorophytum comosum)
Best known as a hardy garden groundcover, hen and chickens is also a star indoors. With striped, arching leaves and air-purifying properties, it’s a cheerful addition to any desk. It grows happily in low light and needs moist soil in summer (less so in winter).
Whether you’re looking for something bold and striking or soft and calming, a few leafy companions can completely change the feel of your home office. Think of them as co-workers who never send you “urgent” emails – just a quiet, green boost to your day.
