The weekend is here, and what better way to enjoy it than having fun at various gigs?

In the Mother City, outdoor and indoor entertainment awaits. Expect plenty of fun and special memories.

The first event you can attend is Pass the Flame: Generations Remembering Women Who Sang Us Forward. It is a 90-minute long show that is family-friendly and celebrates three generations on one stage. This event promises an unforgettable musical experience, and a ground-breaking live show that celebrates legacy, passion, and the power of music with no intervals.

It features Mabongi Thusi, a guitarist, writer, Gospel, Jazz and Afro-Pop artist, whose powerful journey and music have touched lives with messages of hope, resilience, and faith. An iconic legend, Dr Thembi Mtshali Jones, accompanied by Bheki Khoza, a Musical Director in the show, and also a trailblazer whose legacy spans theatre, television, and music. With a career that has seen her share the stage with the greatest jazz luminaries in our country’s history—many of whom are no longer with us—this living legend continues to inspire.

It will also feature KUJENGA, a dynamic 2024 Mzansi Jazz Newcomer Award-winning and 2024 SAMA Awards Nominee young band that is redefining the local and international music scene. Founded by Mabongi Thusi’s twin sons, their fresh, bold sound has earned them a SAMA Awards nomination, and their rise signals a new era of talent that’s catching the world’s attention.

R300 gets you in at Arts Cape Arena on Friday at 19h00.

Another event not to be missed is Opera & Light. It is presented by Con Spirito Philharmonic and AfriArts Choir, taking place on 16 August. The event promises an enchanting evening filled with spectacular performances. The programme includes Carmen’s Sequidilla, the Rigoletto Quartet, Pearl Fishers Duet, the Gypsy Chorus from Il Trovatore, the iconic Nessun dorma, Vilja, ‘I Could Have Danced All Night,’ and ‘To Dream The Impossible Dream,’ among many other highlights.

This event will take place in Bellville, for R180 per ticket on Saturday.

If you are looking to party until the sun drops, this is for you; Khayelitsha Partying Experience. This experience is a combination of good food and great music, paired with local knowledge through an immersive walking tour of the community. In the end, you will have the opportunity to attend an unforgettable block party.

The tickets cost R1 600 – R2 500 at The Spade Boutique Hotel, Mandela Park. It will take place from Friday at 16h00 and continues for the whole weekend.
