Cape Town to Mauritius, nonstop: SAA launches new direct flight

by Staff Bona

South African Airways (SAA) has announced that Cape Town’s air travel connections are getting a tropical upgrade with the inauguration of its first-ever direct flights to Mauritius launching later this year, reports Cape {town} Etc.

Described as a ‘fascinating achievement’ in a statement by SAA CEO Professor John Lamola, the new route represents a strategic expansion aimed at boosting regional leisure travel and supporting tourism goals on both sides of the Indian Ocean.

“Connecting Cape Town with Mauritius is a fascinating achievement that our team has been aspiring towards for quite some time,” John said. “Passengers can look forward to experiencing SAA’s signature warm hospitality and world-class service on every flight.”

SAA’s direct flights to Mauritius will commence from 9 December 2025.

The launch will see three weekly departures from Cape Town on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, with outbound flights departing at 9:25am and touching down in Mauritius just after 4:30pm. The return leg departs the island nation at 5:20pm and lands back in Cape Town at 9:30pm.

Each leg clocks in at just over five hours.

A seasonal adjustment is planned from mid-January to mid-March 2026, during which flights will be reduced to twice weekly, in line with lower demand.

SAA Chief Commercial Officer Tebogo Tsimane said the flight times were developed in close consultation to best suit traveller preferences and peak holiday planning.

“This convenience of the flight schedule was carefully developed through rigorous engagement with our South African tour operator partners to ensure it aligns with traveller preferences and peak holiday planning, fulfilling our mission to offer our customers greater flexibility and convenience,” said Tebogo.

Bookings for the new route are now live via SAA’s website and accredited travel agents.
