No raid and no R18 million found, says SAPS in Dudu Myeni matter

National police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe has dismissed recent rumours surrounding the late Dudu Myeni, revealing that SAPS had not found a R18 million stack of cash and that there was no raid conducted.

This July kicked off on an intriguing note as General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi held a press briefing where he revealed information about corruption allegations involving high-ranking officials.

Since the briefing, a series of interesting events have unfolded, including the announcement of a commission of inquiry, as well as some arrests made in connection to important cases.

Although criticized for failing to follow protocol when dealing with the matter, some members of the public have applauded General Mkhwanazi for blowing the whistle on crime and corruption.

Some also believe that the recent developments made by SAPS, including Katiso Molefe’s arrest in connection to the 2022 murder of Dj Sumbody, were initiated by his press briefing.

As citizens were trying to make sense of Kenny Kunene’s presence at the home of Molefe during his arrest, rumours that R18 million had been seized from the late Dudu Myeni’s home sent chaos through social media.

This information spread like wildfire, resulting in uproar from the public. Some internet users expressed immense frustration at the government for turning a blind eye and allowing such corruption to prevail.

However, national police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe has come out to dispel this rumour.

She has revealed that the SAPS National Intervention Unit (NIU) had not conducted any raid in the home of the late Dudu Myeni, which is reportedly occupied by her son, Thalente.

“The police therefore confirm that no raid was undertaken by any of its units, more so the national intervention unit…The police call for responsible social media reporting and for users to verify information first before sharing,” said the spokesperson.
