Miss South Africa Mia Le Roux aims to be voice for voiceless at National Dialogue

by Sergio Miller

Miss South Africa Mia Le Roux is determined to become a voice for the voiceless when she goes to represent millions of South Africans at the National Dialogue.

Last month, the 2024 pageant winner was announced alongside high-profile personalities including the Springboks captain Siya Kolisi and legendary actor John Kani, who will form part of an Eminent Persons Group to guide the National Dialogue. It is scheduled to take place on the 15th of August.

In a statement shared by the Presidency, the gathering, which was originally planned to take place in December 2024, will aim to address some key challenges that our country has faced while coming up with useful solutions to improve the next chapter in our democracy.

“The National Dialogue will bring together government, political parties, civil society, business, labour, traditional leaders, women, youth, and community voices to find common ground and new solutions for our country. It presents an opportunity to forge a new social compact that drives progress towards Vision 2030 and lays the foundation for South Africa’s next National Development Plan,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, the reigning Miss South Africa says that she is committed to ensuring that the process is credible and wants to be the voice of the voiceless.

Speaking to the entertainment publication Citizen News at an inaugural meeting hosted by President Cyril Ramphosa for the Eminent Persons Group, she said:

“I’m here to ensure that there is credibility to the process. We are all here to drive that credibility and to ensure that this will be a success.”

She added, “I believe that this national dialogue is important because as someone who has always felt unheard, who never had a voice, this is an opportunity for you to have your voice.”
