President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to address the nation on Sunday, 13 July 2025, at 19:00 regarding national security developments. This follows damning allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
The Lieutenant General recently levelled serious allegations against Police Minister Senzo Mchunu and top SAPS officials, accusing them of corruption and collusion with criminal networks — claims that have triggered national alarm.
“President Cyril Ramaphosa will on Sunday, 13 July 2025, address the nation on developments arising from a public statement by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lt-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi that details allegations against senior political and South African Police Service leadership,” the presidency said in a statement.
At the time of Mkhwanazi’s media briefing, Ramaphosa was in Brazil attending the 17th BRICS Summit.
Upon his return, he promised to urgently address the matter, citing its implications for the stability and integrity of South Africa’s security structures.

“President Ramaphosa has been seized with this matter in recent days and will, following various consultations, take the nation into his confidence at 19h00 on Sunday, 13 July 2025,” read the statement.
The address will be broadcast live on major television networks and streamed across official government platforms.
This comes amid mounting calls for transparency and accountability, as opposition parties and civil society demand swift action and clarification on the explosive claims made by the provincial police chief.
