E-hailing taxi service, Bolt has denied any connection to the horrible incident that was allegedly experienced by comedian and actor, Simthande Myeza who is popularly known as Maka Thangithini based off on his fictional character.

Bolt said their data indicates the events described did not take place during one of their rides, and they have also hinted at possible legal actions against any defamatory claims made against their company.

Simthande alleged that he was abducted by a Bolt driver, and two African males. Bolt had released a statement where they confirmed that the are aware of the incident that has been shared involving Simthande.

“Our safety team has reached out to the individual to gather more information and better understand what occurred. While we are still in the process of verifying the trip information, we remain committed to engaging all parties to ensure the matter is thoroughly addressed,” read the statement.

Simthande has since deactivated his Facebook page, leading to the heated debate ensuing on the social media platforms, on what exactly happened. Some netizens believed that what was cited on the statement issued by Simthande’s family was no where near the truth, as investigations against Bolt are underway.

Detailing his horrible ordeal in statement shared by the Myeza family, the terrible experience happened on June, 17 while Simthande was aboard a Bolt ride in the Umbilo area of Durban. According to the statement, Simthande noted that the driver was taking a different route, and that is when he asked him to make a U-turn. However, his plea fell into deaf ears; instead the driver became agitated and eventually stopped the car.

“Two other African men approached the car, and one of them pointed a gun at Simthande. The other one blindfolded him and tied his hands, and they drove with him to an unknown location, ” read the statement.

It is alleged that they then gained access to his bank accounts, and they then cleared them. They then demanded ransom from his family and friends, upon receiving the money, they allegedly stripped him naked and took pictures and videos of him.
