How to host a cosy night in with friends

by Akhona Ndlela

Nothing compares to spending a warm and humorous evening with friends when the weather cools off and the nights grow longer.

Create a laid-back environment at home where everyone feels at ease, fed, and free to be who they are rather than going out.

Start by creating a calm, welcoming atmosphere by lighting candles, turning down the lights, and playing a soothing playlist.

Arrange cosy blankets, pillows, and throws to create a cosy, warm atmosphere that is ideal for spending hours relaxing and conversing.

Choose a simple dinner option that is low effort, high comfort, and enjoyable, such as a homemade pizza, pasta bake, or build-your-own taco bar.

Provide snacks that everyone enjoys munching on while conversing or watching movies, such as popcorn or cheese platters.

Drinks don’t need to be elaborate; hot chocolate with marshmallows, herbal tea, or mulled wine will work just fine.

Arrange a fun and relaxed activity, such as a vision board session, game night, or movie marathon.

Allowing guests to dress in loungewear or pyjamas sets the mood and adds to the evening’s laid-back, welcoming vibe.

Warm scents like vanilla, cinnamon, or amber contribute to a relaxing atmosphere, so keep a few scented candles or essential oils burning.

A small treat or handwritten note sent home with everyone is a considerate way to keep the cosy vibes going after the event

Slowing down, being in the moment, and creating genuine, significant, and incredibly reassuring memories are the hallmarks of cosy nights in during the winter.
