‘My heart is broken’ – Shebeshxt on grief and losing his daughter

by Sergio Miller

Following the passing of his daughter, life has felt like a wrecking ball for the renowned Limpopo rapper Shebeshxt.

The rapper, real name Lehlogonolo Chauke, was involved in a horrific car accident in 2024, which left him hospitalised while his nine-year-old daughter succumbed to her injuries.

Since then, life has been somewhat of a whirlwind for the 28-year-old as he tried navigating life without her by his side.

In a recent interview on the E40 podcast, he spoke out about this experience, claiming that his heart has been broken after having to endure the loss of a child, adding that the pain feels everlasting.

“Sometimes you just have to be strong, but losing someone you brought onto this earth, someone you were living for? You can never recover because every day as you live, every second, the pain does not go down. When you eat, because this is someone you ate with and they are no longer there … in such situations, you just have to give it to God,” he explained.

In recent months, the rapper has found himself in a state of being overwhelmed with emotion. This has since led him to express himself through violence.

Last month he found himself in a physical altercation where he attempted to stab a fan with a knife. This has led many to call for his arrest, as it appears to be quite a frequent occurrence as of late.
