May 2025 saw the Chweneyagae family, as well as South Africa’s acting and entertainment industry, suffer yet another blow as the unexpected death of renowned actor Presley Chweneyagae was confirmed by his agency, MLA.

Although he took on and embodied various characters over the long span of his illustrious career, such as his acclaimed role as David in the award-winning Tsotsi, his portrayal as the fan-favourite Cobrizi gained him immense favour among the South African audience.

What started with Cobrizi forming part of some prominent side characters in the thrilling telenovela The River resulted in Mzansi Magic giving the people what they want with a spin-off that would see him taking centre stage, titled Cobrizi, due to popular demand. With him, Presley took along his on-screen son, whom he had established a deep and personal relationship whom they had worked for four or five years, Thabiso Ramotshela.

“Although he wasn’t my father, he was my dad man,” the youngster says.

During his memorial service, Thabiso was tasked with paying his final respects to his onscreen father who he revealed had become an important father figure in his life. In his speech, Thabiso revealed that even when they were both involved in different projects, Presley would make it a point to check on him and send his well wishes.

Furthermore, Thabiso reminisced on the man pleasant memories he shared with the much-loved actor, as well as the lessons parted onto him by Presley. He went on to reveal what it meant to him to hear those who were close to Presley let him know how he constantly speak about how proud of the youngster he is, confirming that their close bond was based on mutual love and respect.
