The gift of having a mother is often viewed as one of the most remarkable connections that any human being can have.

The role they play in providing care and nurturing has been at the forefront of creating some of society’s greatest leaders and public servants, making nine months of pregnancy before giving birth to a child even sweeter.

As we approach Mother’s Day, an annual day used to celebrate these remarkable feminine beings in our lives, doing something special to show our appreciation is of utmost importance.

While financial constraints might limit the magnitude of extent to which you can do to make the day a special one, fortunately for moms, it is the thought that counts.

If you find yourself struggling with a new idea about what you can buy to make her day extra special, perhaps it is time to change your perspective from buying a gift to providing her with an experience.

“There are many reasons why it is better to give experiences rather than material gifts. They are unforgettable gifts, they break with routine, they don’t take up space, they give us happiness, and they create eternal memories,” explains lifestyle publication We Wander.

The above-mentioned source also notes that these come with several additional benefits.

  • They make unforgettable moments
  • They strengthen your bonds
  • They are unique

If you reside in Cape Town, here are some activities worth experiencing with your mother:
