Will the Nedbank Cup final move to FNB Stadium?- chao ensues as tickets sell out in hours

As both Soweto giants prepare for their highly anticipated Nedbank Cup final match-up, chaos has ensued, as it appears that organisers were not prepared for fans’ overwhelming interest in attending the game, and have resulted in fans suggesting a venue change to a bigger FNB Stadium.

What was supposed to be an exciting moment for Kaier Chiefs and Orlando Pirates fans has quickly turned sour, as fans have voiced immense disappointment and anger after they failed to secure their tickets due to issues with the ticket-handling company.

According to Nedank Sport’s official social media, ticket sales were to become available via the Open Tickets official website, as well as some selected Shoprite and Checkers stores from 10h00 on Monday, 05 April 2025.

However, fans quickly took to their social media to reveal that they were experiencing various issues and challenges when attempting to secure their tickets. This does not come as a surprise, as technology often experiences some glitches; however, even those who opted to physically buy the tickets at the stores, and at Moses Mabhida, revealed that they too experienced challenges and were unable to buy their tickets.

As an attempt to calm the frustrated fans down, Open Tickets responded and assured their customers that they were working hard to fix the issue and would submit a full report to the PSL. Furthermore, they assured affected customers that they would be receiving their full refunds, as tickets were retailing for R150 each.

” Open Tickets regrets the disruption experienced by fans during the ticket sales for the 2025 Nedbank Cup Final. Affected customers will receive direct communications regarding ticket sales, digital reissues, or refunds where applicable,” the company says.

The match-up will see the first Soweto Derby Nedbank Cup final since 2008, when the popular bank took over as the competition’s sponsor.
