Durban City midfielder Sinamandla Zondi, 22, tragically died on Tuesday after collapsing during warm-up ahead of a Motsepe Foundation Championship match against Milford FC at Chatsworth Stadium.

Despite receiving emergency treatment and being rushed to the hospital, Sinamandla passed away, prompting officials to suspend the match, which Milford was leading 1-0 at halftime, EWN reported.

Durban FC released a statement on social media expressing their condolences.

“It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Sinamandla Zondi aka Sgora, a loved member of the Durban City family.

“Sinamandla was more than a talented footballer, he was a teammate, a friend, a brother, a son and an inspiration to all who knew him.

“Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with his family, friends, teammates, coaches, and everyone affected by his tragic loss. We will continue to support those close to him during this difficult time.”
