A healthcare worker has won a R110 million PowerBall jackpot and plans to finally take time off from her demanding job.

“Many of us are burnt out but we work extra hours just to make ends meet. Now, I can finally take time off to rest,” she said.

A regular lottery player, she bought the R30 winning ticket via the FNB app using a quick pick. At first, she didn’t realise she had won, ignoring calls from the bank before finally confirming the life-changing news.

She said that her priority will be to provide essential needs for her family. She intends to use the money to secure a home and car for her family, take her children on their first holiday, invest in their education, and celebrate her upcoming birthday in a meaningful way.

“A home and a car — but also, I want to enjoy some of life’s simple pleasures. I’ve never been able to take my children on a holiday, so that’s definitely on my list. Nothing over the top, we’ll start with a trip to Durban.”

While she has no plans to retire, she says she will now work out of passion rather than necessity. With the help of Ithuba’s financial advisors, she aims to manage her winnings wisely.

Ithuba CEO Charmaine Mabuza congratulated her, praising her dedication to serving others.

She doesn’t plan on stepping away from healthcare.

“Healthcare work isn’t just a job you resign from, it’s a calling. I’ll continue working, but now I’ll do it for the love of it, not because I have to.”
