Shauwn Mkhize breaks silence after Royal AM’s exclusion on PSL

by Silindokuhle Booi

Royal AM Football Club’s owner, Shauwn Mkhize, made a last-ditch effort to save her club from expulsion from the Premier Soccer League (PSL) but was unsuccessful.

The PSL board members voted overwhelmingly in favour of terminating Royal AM’s membership, with nearly 150 votes, while less than 40 ballots attempted to save the club. The board also voted to expunge Royal AM’s points, significantly altering the Betway Premiership table standings.

Royal AM’s troubles began with a R15-million tax debt to the South African Revenue Service (SARS), which led to the appointment of a curator to manage the club’s affairs.

Despite efforts to find a new owner, potential buyers failed to meet the PSL’s criteria. Three bidders, Edward Modise, Eugene Botha, and Global Investments owned by Roy Moodley, submitted proposals but didn’t finalise the purchase.

In response to the PSL’s decision, Shauwn shared a video on Instagram showcasing her moving on from the situation. The video sparked varied reactions from fans and followers.

While the exact caption of her post isn’t available, it appears Shauwn is focusing on her personal and professional endeavours amidst the uncertainty surrounding Royal AM’s future.

One user said: “God is within her. She will not fail.”

Another one wrote, “One thing I know you coming back stronger and stronger it’s in your DNA to win.”
