Lady Du’s father, DJ Choc passed away

Musician Duduzile Ngwenya, popularly known as Lady Du, mourns the death of his father, DJ Choc, who was born as Mbuyiselo Ngwenya.

Lady Du recently took to her Instagram page to express her feelings after her father’s passing. She posted a picture of her and her father sharing the DJ decks and said it had been day three of the toughest days in her life. She also extended her gratitude to those who have been supporting her.

“I’m a mess right now. I won’t be myself for some time, I ask you to understand and respect that. God bless you, I ask that you respect and love your families. We are living in borrowed time,” she penned.

The Ngwenya family confirmed his death and issued a statement. DJ Choc passed away at the age of 51.

“It is with deep sorrow and immense respect that we confirm the passing of South African music legend DJ Choc Ngwenya,” read the statement.

The cause and circumstances surrounding his death have not yet been publicly disclosed. “At this time, the Ngwenya family kindly asks for privacy as they navigate this profound loss. We are grateful for the outpouring of love, support, and tributes already shared.

“Funeral and memorial details will be communicated in due course. We thank you for allowing the family space to mourn, reflect, and honour his extraordinary life. May his soul rest in power,” read the statement.

The legendary DJ, who was nominated for Metro Awards a while ago, has worked with Mbuso Khoza, DJ Cleo, Skipper Shabalala, Smanga, Charlie Mindgames, Fresh DaReal, Isaac Gambu, and Danny Painter. The DJ and vinyl collector was known for his signature old-school style.
