Generations: The Legacy actors told to stay at home amid contracts delays

Could history repeat itself? This question comes after the future of SABC1’s long-running soapie, Generations: The Legacy, remains in limbo, as the actors were temporarily laid off while waiting for their new contracts.

The soapie produced by Mfundi Vundla, which has built some of mzansi’s childhood and aspirations, is on a production break and may face a temporary shutdown due to contractual issues, according to entertainment commentator, Phil Mphela.

“In a letter sent to crew and cast, the production company assured employees that the show will definitely be renewed for another season and the contract delay will be sorted promptly. Unfortunately, this means the employees will not be getting paid as they will not be working in the interim,” said Phil.

The soapie had a similar experience in 2013/14 when actors asked for a salary increase, which led to the cast being fired. Speaking to Sunday World, a source who wished to remain anonymous for fear of reprisals said: “Our production breaks usually coincide with school holidays. So this year, we went on break with the hope of returning to work on April 7. However, we received letters informing to stay at home until further notice.

“They said they were still trying to get a new contract with SABC. We are scared because we don’t know how long that will take or what the future holds for us. We don’t know if we still have jobs or not,” the source revealed.

You can hate Generations but it has inspired many black people to be successful in life ,to me it our legacy as a first soap that represented the life of black people. Metro FM and Generations played a vital role in our life.

Why is SABC afraid of pulling the plug on this show? There’s no more creative juices left. Let it d*e peacefully with its dignity intact and make way for a new show with fresh ideas.

This show needs new writers, they should also act outside their building, not everything must happen indoor and at the parking lot

They have the best actors in the country but they really don’t know how to use them
