South African actress Nandi Nyembe has been open about her struggles with chronic illness and disability.

In 2020, she revealed that she had been diagnosed with a chronic illness that had left her wheelchair-bound.

Nandi has spoken publicly about the challenges she faces due to her condition, including mobility issues and chronic pain. Despite these challenges, she remains committed to her craft and continues to inspire fans with her strength and resilience.

In addition to her health issues, she has also faced financial difficulties, which have made it difficult for her to access the medical care and support she needs. Her situation has sparked an outpouring of support from fans and fellow industry professionals, who are rallying around her to help her access the resources she needs to manage her condition.

This includes Gayton McKenzie, the Minister of Sports, Arts, and Culture, donated R20,000 to Nandi to help alleviate her financial struggles. Gayton was moved by Nandi’s viral video, in which she shared her dire situation, including a lack of medical aid and limited work opportunities due to her declining health.

He reached out to her via a video call and provided financial support from his personal funds, not from government resources. This is not the first time Gayton has stepped up to support struggling artists, having made donations to others in need in the past.

Amongst these donations, actor and singer Phila Madlingozi took to his social media platforms and offered to take an acting job where all his earnings for that gig can be sent to Nandi.
