Grammy Award-winning South African artist Tyla has scored another big win.

The ‘Water’ singer walked away with the Impact Award at the 2025 Billboard Women in Music ceremony.

Hosted by actress Laverne Cox, the event was held at Los Angeles’ YouTube Theater and honours influential women in music, from artists to industry power players.

Tyla arrived at the event in Jean Paul Gaultier couture. Her gown was a spidery string and mesh black dress with a high neckline that clung to her body before flowing into a webbed train.

The dress is part of Ludovic de Saint Sernin’s Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2025 Couture collection, titled Le Naufrage, which translates to Shipwreck, according to Vogue.

On the red carpet, Billboard asked Tyla how she felt about receiving the Impact Award and knowing she had an “impact” on fans and other artists.

“It feels amazing. Not a lot of people get recognised, so I’m really lucky and grateful to be here. And I’m grateful for the people who impacted me in my career and my life and who got me here,” she shared.

For her performance of ‘Push to Start’, Tyla switched into a different look, wearing a black two-piece over a yellow lace bra, according to Elle.

The publication added that during her acceptance speech, she reflected on the power of influence, saying, “You never know how something you say or do, a lyric, a performance, might ignite in someone else, and what they, in turn, will pass forward to another person.”

The latest win adds to other milestones in her career. She became the first African artist to win the Grammy for Best African Music Performance.

She has also earned recognition at the BET Awards, Billboard Music Awards, and MTV VMAs for her genre-defying sound.

Most recently, she joined André 3000 and Usher on the Met Gala committee to celebrate Black fashion. The prestigious event is set to be hosted on May 5, 2025.
