Prince Harry cuts ties with Lesotho Charity organisation

by Sergio Miller

Following a 20-year-long relationship with a charity organisation established in honour of his mother, the late Princess Diana, co-founders of Sentebale, Prince Harry and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho have resigned.

Sentebale was established in 2006 to address the challenges that young people in Lesotho and Botswana face regarding HIV and Aids. The topic was one that Harry’s mother, Diana, held close to her heart.

Meanwhile, the duo’s resignation comes after ongoing tensions with the board’s chair, Sophie Chandauka.

In a statement released, they added: “With heavy hearts, we have resigned from our roles as patrons of the organisation until further notice, in support of and solidarity with the board of trustees who have had to do the same.

“It is devastating that the relationship between the charity’s trustees and the chair of the board broke down beyond repair, creating an untenable situation.”

News broadcaster eNCA reported that many more trustees have since left the organisation and are now calling for Sophie to resign.

While both Princes have not clearly stated what their plans are going forward, they have revealed that they are shocked that they have had to do it but added that they have a continued responsibility towards Sentebale’s beneficiaries.

“It is devastating that the relationship between the charity’s trustees and the chair of the board broke down beyond repair, creating an untenable situation,” the statement continued.

Meanwhile, Sophie claims that she has been the victim in the situation and that she was targeted because she has blown the whistle on issues of “Poor governance, weak executive management, abuse of power, bullying, harassment, misogyny, misogynoir -and the coverup that ensued”.
