Did Murdah Bongz bail on gig? Alleged no-show sparks drama

Jola Café has accused Murdah Bongz, a popular music producer and social media personality, of backing out of their Sunday event, despite being fully paid, only to allegedly perform at another gig the same night.

The Eastern Cape lifestyle lounge provided proof of payment amounting to R65,000 and claimed Bongz’s team communicated that he couldn’t perform due to not “feeling well.”

However, just hours later, videos and pictures emerged showing him allegedly performing at an event in Johannesburg.

“We understand health concerns,” Jola Café said in a statement. “But we find it disappointing that he plans to proceed with other events shortly after notifying us of his condition. This undermines the respect owed to all fans, whether they are in Sandton or Sterkspruit.”

The cancellation led to significant financial losses for the venue, which had already invested in sound, staging, and other arrangements.

To make up for the inconvenience, they announced that Sunday night’s show would be free, and those who had purchased pre-sold tickets could collect a refund at the bar.

When a follower, @bucie_ngqukumba, commented, “Eyyy Wenzeni e Eastern Cape!!” in an unrelated post on Murdah Bongz’s Instagram, TSquared Productions, the events coordination and talent management agency representing Bongz, sought to clarify the situation. They responded: “Siyaxolisa sisi, we never said he is not well.

“We just asked to postpone the event and gave a statement, but the promoter created their own stating that he is not well, which was not true.”

A comment by @khush_xaba added fuel to the fire: “The card you pulled on our province Eastern Cape. Why do you even accept bookings knowing very well you don’t wish to come? You guys don’t respect our province, shame.”

TSquared Productions responded: “@khush_xaba Hi sisi, unfortunately, you do not have the right info.

“We called and asked to postpone, and the promoter proceeded to say he is not well – that is not what we communicated. We do apologise for the inconvenience caused.”
