Lipton sends SA into a meltdown; then says ‘just kidding’

Lipton Ice Tea nearly broke the internet when they announced they were killing off a fan-favourite flavour.

South Africans didn’t just panic; they melted down faster than ice in a heatwave.

With everything going on in the world, it turns out what unites us is the love for a good old-fashioned peach-flavoured iced tea.

The shocking statement, delivered with the poetic finesse of a tragic eulogy, read: “Rest in Peach. You may have heard that our iconic Peach Lipton Ice Tea flavour is being discontinued.

“We know – it hurts (sorry if we’ve ruined your go-to afternoon chill bev). But don’t worry, the rest of your faves are still here to keep you refreshed. And who knows? Maybe one day, Peach will make a legendary comeback.

“We appreciate your understanding during this period of adjustment and apologize for any inconvenience caused.”

Cue the outrage. The betrayal. The sheer devastation. People were ready to start petitions, stage protests, and maybe even launch a full-scale Peach Tea Rescue Mission™.

But; plot twist! Turns out Lipton just had their calendars mixed up. They let the chaos brew just long enough to get a reaction (which they did, with over 180K likes and 17K comments) before dropping this little gem:

“PEACH IS HERE TO STAY”

“Oops, is it still March? Got my dates mixed up… thought it was April Fools already! I’d never take away your favourite flavour, pookies.

Your love for Peach has not gone unnoticed. But I’ve got your back, I will be sending a surprise to the biggest fans with the best reactions ;)”

And just like that, the nation exhaled. Crisis averted. Peach remains on the throne. The people win.
